Frequently Asked Questions
What is Functional Patterns?
Unlike traditional exercise - which often isolates muscles or focuses on frontal-plane movement - Functional Patterns restores alignment, balance, and proportional strength to reduce pain and improve long-term performance.
Do I need experience to start?
No. Functional Patterns is suitable for bodies at every stage: chronic pain, movement restrictions, coordination challenges, or those simply focused on longevity, as well as high-level athletes.
Training begins with corrective work to restore alignment, balance, and movement sequencing. This helps undo imbalances created by lifestyle factors such as prolonged sitting, injury compensation, or repetitive sports.
We meet you where you are. No two structures are the same, and every program is built accordingly.
What should I start with?
An initial consultation.
Assessment and testing come first—before retraining and restoration can begin.
What can I expect from my first few sessions?
The first five-ten sessions are slower paced and highly focused. The goal is to build neurological connections between brain and body, creating optimal tension and integrated muscle activation.
Movements are closely observed and precisely cued - directing how you tilt, shift, rotate, and engage - to rebalance tissue and awaken muscles in ways that may feel unfamiliar.
You will feel challenged. You will feel seen. You will step outside your comfort zone - this is where change begins.
How often should I train?
For meaningful structural change, one–two sessions per week to start.
You’ll also be given homework to support your training and accelerate results.
How is this different from Pilates or personal training?
This approach is based on Functional Patterns and the human gait cycle — focusing on how the body moves as a whole, rather than isolating muscles.
The goal is to restore natural movement patterns, not just improve fitness.
